Washington Avenue Railroad Crossing Closing Thursday

The crossing will be closed after the one at First Avenue is reopened.

The next phase of Westwood's Broadway intersection improvement project is slated to start this week, closing the railroad crossing at Washington Avenue.

Borough officials are advising drivers to plan alternate routes during the work.

Until the project is completed, a bus service will replace Pascack Valley Line trains on weekdays between 8:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and all day on weekends.

Once the work at the intersections is finished, additional work in Veterans' Memorial Park is expected to last until December and a road repaving project is planned for next spring.

The project is designed to ease traffic in downtown Westwood by updating traffic lights, creating new turning lanes and allowing drivers to continue on Broadway when trains pass through town.
