Buses Replacing Many Trains During Construction [UPDATE]

The intersection of Irvington Street and Broadway in Westwood will be closed as of 7 a.m. Thursday, NJ Transit announced Wednesday.

The start of a project designed to ease traffic in downtown Westwood has been moved up to Thursday morning, when the intersection of Irvington Street and Broadway will be closed. It is expected to remain shut until July 28.

There will be limited train service once the work starts. Buses will replace trains starting Saturday. The replacement service will run all day on weekends and between 8:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays starting Monday and all day on weekends. Trains will still run outside of that window during the week. The updated bus schedule is available online here. The replacement service is expected to last until early September.

The bus service will replace trains at all Pascack Valley Line stations between Spring Valley and Secaucus. Travelers should plan on their trips lasting between 30 and 60 extra minutes during the substitute service, according to an alert from NJ Transit. Also, anyone who wants to travel between local stations on weekdays may have to ride to Secaucus and then catch a different bus back to their destination.

The work will be occurring at three intersections along Broadway in Westwood. The street will be widened to allow for the creation of new turning lanes so that traffic will be able to move on Broadway while trains stop at the Westwood Train Station. One intersection will be closed to drivers at a time, with Irvington and Broadway being first.
