Westwood 'Home For The Holidays' Parade December 7

The annual parade through downtown Westwood will start at 6 p.m. December 7.

Westwood will hold the annual "Home For The Holidays" parade December 7.

The parade's theme this year is "winter sports" and float-makers are encouraged to incorporate inspiration from football, cheerleading, soccer, ice skating, skiing, hockey or snowboarding. Former New York Giants running back and Superbowl winner Joe Morris will also reportedly be attending the event.

The event starts at 6 p.m. this year — hopefully late enough for athletes and football fans to attend after Westwood Regional High School's Cardinals compete in the North 1, Group 2 state sectional championship at 4 p.m. at Kean University.

The event includes the parade down Westwood Avenue with music and refreshments in many shops and restaurants and a celebration in Veterans' Memorial Park. There will also be a contest for best float, best truck, best classic car and best window display/storefront.

Last year, police estimated thousands of people from around the area attended the parade.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the parade should email mmcdonough@westwoodnj.gov or framek@aol.com for info about sponsorships for costumes, music, hot chocolate, popcorn and giveaways.
