Washington Twp. Man Struck, Killed by Train in Westwood

Robert J. DeRosa, 26, was reportedly walking on the tracks when he was hit.

A 26-year-old Washington Township man was killed early Thursday after he was hit by a train in Westwood.

Witnesses saw Robert J. DeRosa walking on the tracks near Emerson at about midnight just before he was hit by a Hoboken-bound train, according to NJ Transit spokesperson Courtney Carroll.

"Unfortunately, the engineer was not able to stop the train in time," Carroll said.

There were no injuries among the train's two passengers or crew, according to Carroll.

NJ Transit Police were continuing to investigate the incident, she said.

Another man was killed when he was hit by a train in Fair Lawn at about 7 a.m. Thursday, Carroll said. That investigation was also ongoing and the man's identity was not immediately available.
