James O'Keefe Can't Travel Out of State While on Probation
A federal magistrate said the Westwood native can't travel for speaking engagements or personal trips
Conservative activist and Westwood native James O'Keefe won't be able to leave New Jersey while he's on probation for his involvement in a telephone tampering case, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.
Federal Magistrate Daniel Knowles III denied O'Keefe's request to travel for several speaking engagements, a conference and personal trips. According to the Associated Press, Knowles had previously approved out of state travel and O'Keefe's attorney indicated that his probation officer didn't have any objections to the requests.
O'Keefe, who graduated from and Rutgers University, became famous for trying to embarrass Planned Parenthood and ACORN by recording undercover video to show people in those organizations in a bad light.

Last year, O'Keefe pleaded guilty to posing as a telephone repairman and entering New Orleans Sen. Mary Landrieu's office. Three others also pleaded guilty in the case. O'Keefe received a sentence of three years probation, 100 hours of community service and a $1,500 fine. Knowles handed down that sentence in May 2010.
