Emerson Woods Nature Tour/Art Workshop for Kids!

Bergen SWAN Hosts Combined Nature Tour/Nature Art Workshop for Kids, July 14, 2013, from 2:00- 4:00 PM

Bergen Save the Watershed Action Network (Bergen SWAN) will team up with a local naturalist and local artist to host a special nature walk and art event for children eight to twelve years old.

The event will begin with a guided tour of the 100+ acre Emerson Woods led by naturalist Nancy Slowik.  Mid July is a perfect time to observe butterflies, dragonflies, and many other beneficial insects and other species that live in this wetlands preserve.  Nancy will offer participants a hands-on opportunity to learn more about these animals and the environment in which they live.

Following the walk, each participant will be given a "cigar box easel" and go on a seeing/drawing adventure. Amy Dudash Robinson, artist and nature lover, will guide walkers through the wonders of seeing a leaf, branch, or bug close up with new eyes.  Starting with a few warm-up exercises to tone their observation skills, participants will use their cigar box easel to draw at ground level the texture of bark, the edge of a leaf, the petals of a flower, and other parts of nature.

Participation is by registration only and limited to 15 children.  Adults are welcome to join the walk portion of the event.  The entry fee is a minimum $20 donation per child and a $10 donation for each adult accompanying them.   Refreshments and art materials are included.   To register and receive instructions, please call Bergen SWAN at 201-666-1877, or email bergenswan@sprynet.com, subject “July 14 Nature Walk.”
