Tire Store Plans Westwood Location

ETD Discount Tire Center plans to open a new location on Kinderkamack Road near the defunct Chevy dealership.

The company has applied to the Westwood Zoning Board for permission to knock down an empty garage at 22 Kinderkamack Road and build a new 5,160-square-foot store.

ETD will need the board to grant them a use variance for the project. Some retail uses are allowed in the limited business zone where the site is located, but borough officials deemed that the store's tire sales and installation did not fall under the permitted uses.

The site is almost directly across the street from the former Chevy dealer where another developer had recently planned to build a five-unit strip mall. The board denied that application in March, with members voicing concerns over traffic, signage and a requested variance for convenience store use near a residential area.

The board began hearing ETD's application at their meeting Monday night. Their next meetng is July 1.
