New Spa Coming to Washington Township

The Washington Township Planning Board approved the plan for "Body Empathy" spa.

Another new business is coming to the Washington Town Center.

The Washington Township Planning Board unanimously approved the application for Body Empathy spa during their meeting Wednesday night, pending OKs from the Fire Department and Board of Health.

The business will be run by Tod Thorgersen and his wife, who previously owned a similar business in China for 10 years before coming to the U.S. and working at Massage Envy in Paramus for the past four years.

They plan to offer table massage, foot sauna, foot reflexology and chair massage, Thorgersen said. The treatments can be both relaxing and offer health benefits, he said.

"More and more doctors are recommending massage in their prescriptions," Thorgersen said.

The business will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. They hope to take appointments only. The spa will feature five table massage rooms and an area for foot treatments which will be able to accommodate between four and six customers at once.

The spa's therapists will all be licensed as is required by state law, according to Thorgersen.

They hope to open sometime between September 15 and October 1 if all does well, Thorgersen said.
