Another new business is coming to the Washington Town Center.

The Washington Township Planning Board unanimously voted to approve an application from Eye-Level Learning Center to open in one of the strip mall's vacant storefronts during their meeting Wednesday night.

Steve Winick, the applicant and Eye Level franchisee, said he plans to open May 1, the same day Original Pizza and Dunkin Donuts are also scheduled to reopen in the strip mall.

Previously called E.Nopi, the company is currently in the process of expanding around the tri-state area, Winick said. He already owns an Eye Level in Tribeca. Another locaction recently opened on Route 17 in Paramus.

"It's one of the biggest companies you've never heard of," Winick said.

Eye Level uses a "workbook-based curriculum" in which tutors guide students through an individualized and self-directed program that teaches the same math and English skills they learn in school — their standards are based on National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and U.S. Department of Education standards — but using different methods than in traditional classrooms.

"Kids absolutely love it," Winick said. "It's different than what they're doing in school."

The program can be used by students trying to catch up with their class or students who are already doing well and want to get ahead, according to Winick. Students typically attend one session for an hour or two each week.

Eye Level be open from 12:30 to 6 p.m. on weekdays, catering to preschool-aged children while others are in school. They will also be open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
