Hillsdale WWII Vet Receives Medals After 67 Years

Retired Sergeant Robert "Bob" Bradshaw earned the medals while serving with the 165th Field Artillery in World War II.

Robert "Bob" Bradshaw, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, recently received his earned medals awarded for his service, thanks to some help from American Legion Post 162.

Bradshaw served with the 165th Field Artillery in the battle and retaking of the Aleutian Islands and Attu Island and was reassigned to the Philippine Islands as troops were being prepared for the ongoing Pacific Theater of Operations. He is currently a member of General Leonard E. Wood American Legion Post 162.

Bradshaw was discharged as a sergeant in December 1945 and returned to Hillsdale. His discharge paper listed the medals — The American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific, American Defense, Victory, Army Good Conduct — but Bradshaw wanted to have the actual medals for his children and grandchildren to see what he had gone through.

Bradshaw said he hopes they do not have to experience anything like he underwent in the war.
