A majority of Westwood voters supported President Barack Obama, while the majority of Hillsdale voters favored Governor Mitt Romney in Tuesday's election.
Hillsdale residents favored Mitt Romney and Westwood residents preferred Barack Obama in the presidential election Tuesday, according to unofficial results released by the towns. The margins were close in both towns. In Hillsdale, 2,613 voters picked Romney and 2,359 picked Obama. In Westwood, 2,482 picked Obama and 2,362 picked Romney. Mail-in and provisional ballots had not yet been counted. Conversely, Democrats won all or most of the Hillsdale Council seats and Republicans took the two Westwood Council seats, according to unofficial results. The deadline for electronic voting has been extended after email and fax ballots caused headaches Tuesday throughout the state. A high volume of requests overwhelmed county officials, including in Morris where the chairman of the Morris County Board of Elections told NJ.com it may take weeks to determine the outcome of some close local elections. Politicians said this election season was 'very difficult' because of storm.
After millions of New Jersey residents spent most of last week without power, gas, and even lost their homes, Tuesday’s general election was likely the farthest from their minds.
