What Businesses Would You Like at The Former Westwood Chevy?

An application which requested a convenience store use variance was rejected by the Westwood Zoning Board this month.

An application to build a five-unit strip mall at the former Chevrolet of Westwood on Kinderkamack Road was denied by the Westwood Zoning Board earlier this month. The developer had requested a convenience store use variance to allow a 7-Eleven to occupy a portion of the space, which board members said was one of their concerns before voting against the plan. The same developer has also filed an application for a similar strip mall at the empty lot across the street. The site is located on Kinderkamack Road next to the cemetery near the Emerson border. It's in a "limited business" zone, meaning that only some specific retail uses, like large appliance stores or antique stores, or allowed.  The property's owner previously said he believed …

"The Pit of The Pascack Valley"... I love my town. I don't think anything about it relates to a pit (except the bus shelter on the corner of Westwood Ave & Broadway). I suggested additional SENIOR housing, because while the Westwood House is a lovely and long standing property in Westwood it has a waiting list. As many of us know there are scores of residents born and raised in WW. Many own homes…   more ›

What Should Go in the Former CVS?

The Westwood CVS recently moved to its new location on Broadway and Jefferson Avenue.

The Westwood CVS recently closed its doors and moved shop to their newly-built site on the corner of Broadway and Jefferson Avenue. The former location is still available for rent, according to signs on the building. The building has more than 8,000 square feet and is located on the corner of Westwood Avenue and Center Avenue, near the middle of the borough's busy Central Business District. The CBD is zoned for many different uses. Patch readers on our Facebook page already had a few suggestions for the kinds of business they'd like to see occupy the former CVS, including an arcade, a Mexican restaurant or a small hardware store. What kind of business would you like to see in the former CVS? Share your ideas in the comments below.

What Should Go in Learning Express?

The Westwood branch of the educational toy store closed this year.

Learning Express, the Westwood branch of the toy store chain, closed this year. The store sold educational toys, from baby age and older. The site is located on Center Avenue in Westwood's Central Business District and is zoned for many uses. Of course, it could still be a toy store — Five Corner Convenience recently reopened nearby with new owners after it closed earlier this year. Similarly, the former News: What When Wear became Anais, another clothing store. Many new businesses have recently opened in Westwood, including Glow, Victoria Rose Salon and Olive Branch & Grape Vine. What kind of business would you like to see in the former Learning Express? I was so disappointed to see that it had closed, as well as surprised, being that it always seemed busy. It was so convenient when you were in need of a gift for a child, and they always stocked unique and educational toys that you don't always find at the larger toy stores. I too hope they fill the space with a similar store.   more ›

What Should Go Near Five Corners?

A man who planned to open a golden age movie theater in Westwood is looking for a new location. What kind of business would you like to see open?

A man who planned to open a golden age movie theater on Kinderkamack Road in Westwood is looking for a new location because of an objection from the owner of Pascack Theaters. The theater was going to open alongside a planned dry cleaner and a medical office in 312 Kinderkamack Road, which is located near the Five Corners intersection. The other two businesses are still continuing with an application before the Westwood Zoning Board, leaving the third spot open. The site is located on the edge of Westwood's Central Business District, so it is zoned for a wide variety of uses. What kind of business would you like to see near Five Corners? Previously, Wachovia Bank applied to build on the site, but the plan was rejected by the planning board. What Should Go in The Washington Town Center?

There are several empty storefronts Washington Township's strip mall.

A group of Washington Township business owners renting space in the Washington Town Center hope to improve the strip mall's image to make it a more attractive destination for shoppers and diners. Several of the business owners asked the township council to change an ordinance which limits signs in the mall to one color and one font last week. The business owners said they believed more variety in the signs could help attract more customers and other businesses to the township. There are currently several empty storefronts in the mall and 14 of the spaces are listed as being available. The spaces range in size from 738 square feet to 3,205 square feet.
