Westwood Regional Staff to Be Honored by Education Foundation

Seven local educators will be recognized with "Dedication to Excellence" awards by the Westwood-Washington Township Education Foundation.

The Westwood Washington Township Education Foundation has announced this year’s “Dedication to Excellence” award recipients. The seven staff honorees include: The winners are selected by a committee based on criteria which include promoting excellence in education and placing the needs of the school community first. This year, the WWTEF will hold an annual fundraiser, “Casino Royale” from 6 to 11 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at Seasons Restaurant in Washington Township. Tickets are $100 per person, which includes food, cocktails and $100 in “play money” to participate in the games. The winners will be recognized during the fundraiser. At the fundraiser, participants can purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win "Dinner for Two" at the world…

It seems to me that more people would attend the "normal" dinner that was held in previous years. Many people are not interested in gambling (even with play money) and $100.00 for the gala without a formal dinner seems like a lot of money. I hope those being honored are not disappointed if it is not as popular as it has been in the past. Congratulations to all those who are being nominated.   more ›

Westwood Alum to be Honored at Education Foundation Gala

PNC Bank Regional President Linda Bowden will be presented the Cardinal Alumni Achievement Award.

  The Westwood-Washington Township Education Foundation is holding their annual gala March 27 and honoring Westwood Regional alum Linda Bowden, the regional president of PNC Bank. Bowden formerly taught in Wyckoff and has been named one of the "50 Best Women to Watch" by NJBiz and one of "25 Women to Watch" by American Banker Magazine. The WWTEF has picked Bowden as the winner of this year's Cardinal Alumni Achievement Award, which is given to one noteworthy alum at the gala each year. Educators in the district will also be honored. This year's gala will be a casino night with food, cocktails and gambling with "play money." WWT Education Foundation Announces Casino Night

The Westwood-Washington Township Education Foundation raised about $50,000 at their gala last year.

The Westwood-Washington Township Education Foundation has planned their annual gala for March 27 at Seasons, and this year the event will be a casino night. Last year's gala raised about $50,000 for the district's social studies program. Check out photos from the event here. Tickets for the event at $100, or $150 for a "patron ticket." The WWT asks that anyone interested in attending RSVP by March 15. An order form for tickets is available online here.

Just a little curious here as to why the Ed Foundation "raised money" for the new courtyard at the high school and yet failed to realize that there was no money put aside from them or the BOE to install the bricks and fountain. Who is picking up the tab on the $35K to have it finished?   more ›

Westwood Gala Helps Student’s Interest in Flight Soar

Brookside student Michael Atkins was able to live his dream of riding in an airplane after his family won an auction benefiting the Westwood-Washington Township Education Foundation.

  Thanks to this year’s Westwood-Washington Township Education Foundation Gala and a teacher with a passion for flying, fourth-grader Michael Atkins fulfilled a dream of riding in a plane. Atkins, a student at Brookside Elementary School in Westwood, recently flew with Brookside fifth grade teacher Brian Adkins in his Cessna. The two took off, with the student’s mother Linda Atkins giving a “thumbs up” to going along for the ride, at Greenwood Lake Airport in West Milford. Adkins, also commercial pilot, donated the flight as part of the gala’s fifth annual fundraiser. The organization presented several awards to members of the community.

The Westwood-Washington Education Foundation held its fifth annual gala at Seasons Thursday night. The foundation named 1995 Westwood High School graduate Alex Iglesias "distinguished alumni," awarded former Bergen County Clerk Lisa Randall for her "dedicated service" and several district teachers for "dedication to excellence." The past galas have raised a total of about $250,000 for the Westwood Regional School District. All the money raised at this year's event will support social studies programs in the district.

Education Foundation Holding Fifth Annual Gala Tonight

Westwood grad Alejandro “Alex” Iglesias will be honored for his achievements.

The Westwood-Washington Township Education Foundation is holding its fifth annual gala at Seasons March 1. At the gala, the foundation will be naming 1995 Westwood Regional Jr. Sr. High School graduate Alejandro “Alex” Iglesias the Cardinal Alumni Achievement Award winner. Iglesias is an two-time Emmy-winning journalist who has worked for companies that include CBS, AOL and MSG. The foundation will also present former County Clerk Elizabeth Randall with the Distinguished Community Member award and awards of excellence to representatives from each school.
