Three New Businesses Opening in Washington Town Center

The owners of recently-approved businesses all said they planned to open May 1.

Original Pizza, Dunkin Donuts and Eye Level Learning Center are all set to open in Washington Township's Washington Town Center strip mall soon. Eye Level was approved by the Planning Board earlier this month. Original Pizza and Dunkin Donuts, which both previously existed in the mall, were approved in late February. The owners of all three businesses pointed to May 1 as their targeted opening date. Original Pizza will occupy the exact same space it used to be in. They plan to replace the old blue sign with a similar red one, and will be adding a new delivery service, according to owner Dominick David. Dunkin Donuts will be between BK Tae Kwon Do and Wing Lee Kitchen. They will also replace their old blue sign, with one of the orange and …

The tutoring center specializes in self-directed programs individualized for students' needs.

Another new business is coming to the Washington Town Center. The Washington Township Planning Board unanimously voted to approve an application from Eye-Level Learning Center to open in one of the strip mall's vacant storefronts during their meeting Wednesday night. Original Pizza, Dunkin Donuts Approved by Board

Both restaurants are planning to return to Washington Township this spring.

The Washington Township Planning Board unanimously approved applications for Original Pizza and Dunkin Donuts to return to the Washington Town Center during a meeting Wednesday night. Dunkin Donuts franchisee Keith Rasquinha and Original Pizza owner Dominick David both said they planned to open on or near May 1. Both businesses previously occupied space in the strip mall and will be owned by the same people who owned them before. "Basically, it's going to be the same as before," David said. Original Pizza will occupy the exact same space it used to be in. They will replace the old blue sign with a similar red one, and will be adding a new delivery service. "I should've never left to begin with," David said. Dunkin Donuts will also take …

Dunkin Donuts Returning to Washington Township

The Washington Township Planning Board is scheduled to hear a plan to open a Dunkin Donuts in the Town Center strip mall later this month.

An applicant has filed to open a new Dunkin Donuts in the Washington Town Center strip mall, replacing one which previously closed. Keith Rasquinha, who originally ran the Dunkin Donuts there, has proposed to open a new Dunkin Donuts in the 1,332-square-foot space between BK Tae Kwon Do and Wing Lee Kitchen in the mall, near its former location between Subway and Dairy Queen. "He is excited about returning to the Washington Town Center and we are thrilled to have him come back," John Azarian, the mall's leasing agent, told Patch. The plan calls for a new, multi-colored sign similar to those found at other Dunkin Donuts locations around the area, which is now allowed thanks to a change in the township's sign ordinance approved by the …

New Signs Going Up at Washington Town Center

Business owners hope the new signs will help draw more customers to Washington Township's strip mall.

Businesses in the Washington Town Center have started installing their new signs after the township's council adopted an ordinance easing restrictions on signs in the strip mall. Vincent's Trattoria and Verizon have both recently installed new signs, Verizon using the company's logo and Vincent's adding a red "trattoria" under their existing sign. Jonathan Ronda, the manager at the Verizon store, told Patch he expects the new sign will help draw more customers who might have otherwise ignored the strip mall's uniform blue signs, which many have said are hard to read from the road. "Variety is going to cause more people to take a second look," Ronda said. According to Ada Gazzillo of Vincent's, having the additional sign already made a …

Condo Rumors Untrue, Mall Owner's Son Says

Alex DiChiara said his family has no intention of selling Washington Township's Washington Town Center or of replacing the strip mall with condominiums.

The owner of the Washington Town Center has no plans to build condominiums at the site, despite rumors to the contrary, according to Alex DiChiara, the owner's son. As many of the center's storefronts have remained vacant, rumors have circulated among Washington Township residents that the owner, Adele DiChiara, planned to replace the strip mall with a condo development. Alex DiChiara and John Azarian, the mall's leasing agent, both told Patch that there are no plans to build condos or sell it to another developer. "There simply aren’t any hidden agendas as some residents imagine," Alex DiChiara wrote in an email to Patch. DiChiara's family has owned the property since 1959. Alex DiChiara, who now works in real estate on the West Coast, …

New Sign Law Approved For Washington Town Center

The Washington Township Council approved a new ordinance with looser rules for signs for businesses in the town's strip mall.

The Washington Township Council unanimously approved an ordinance amending the rules for signs in the Washington Town Center during their meeting this week. Business owners in the strip mall had been asking for looser restrictions because the current signs, which are almost all uniform in color and font, are difficult to read and do not catch the eyes of potential customers, they said. The changes remove the one-color and one-font restrictions, and also increase the maximum allowed size to a 12.5-foot by 4-foot area. The business owners will need to get a permit from the town and will also require permission from the property's manager, the Azarian Group, before they can put up new signs. They will also have to wait 20 days from Friday, …

Washington Township to Introduce Sign Law Change

Business owners in the Washington Town Center want a looser law so they can attract more customers.

Drivers passing by the Washington Town Center on Pascack Road in Washington Township can expect to see a greater variety of signs starting this fall. The Washington Township Council came to a consensus during their meeting this week that they would introduce changes to a sign ordinance governing the strip mall during their next meeting. The changes include removing restrictions that all signs must use the same color and font, and business owners will be able to expand to fill a 12.5-foot by 4-foot area. Businesses owners have said they believe they will be able to attract more customers by having signs which use different colors, fonts and logos to differentiate them from each other. They described the current signs, which are almost all …

Washington Twp. Considering Sign Law Change

The Washington Township Planning Board gave the go-ahead for looser sign restrictions in the Washington Town Center.

Washington Township officials took the first step toward more varied signs for the Washington Town Center during a planning board meeting Wednesday. The board gave its consent for changes to an ordinance regulating signs in the Washington Town Center. Currently, all the signs must be uniform in their blue color and font under the ordinance. The proposed change, which needs to be made by the council to go into effect, would remove the uniform requirement and allow for signs to be larger, contain a second tier or include logos. Signs would be limited to a 12.5-foot by 4-foot area. Business owners in the mall have said that the current sign limitations make it difficult to attract customers. John Azarian, the managing and leasing agent for …

Kevin Donohue It's all well and good to have a uniform look to the shopping center. Unfortunately, all it's doing is creating a neat lookiing ghost town. If variety in signage will bring life back to the shopping center, I'm all for it. Affordable leasing rates wouldn't be bad either.   more ›
