The owners of The Iron Horse marked the restaurant's 40-year anniversary Wednesday morning. The restaurant officially reopened March 5, less than five months after a fire destroyed the kitchen. Dozens of family, friends, customers and employees packed into the restaurant Wednesday while local clergy blessed several rooms. The Westwood Regional Board of Education approved a $52 million budget for the 2012-13 school year during their meeting Thursday. The budget comes with a 1.38 increase to the overall tax levy, but Westwood and Washington Township residents will be affected differently by the budget. A look back at the past week in Westwood and Washington Township.
The Iron Horse officially reopened Monday, less than five months after a fire destroyed the kitchen and nearly took down the entire building. Kitchen Manager Sean Tremble said the restaurant is planning a grand reopening ceremony for March 21, which also happens to The Iron Horse's 40th anniversary. *** A one-legged wild turkey, which some Washington Township residents feared was in danger, was found at the Raptor Trust in Millington Tuesday. Residents who feed the turkey, nicknamed Eileen, were concerned for the bird's safety after witnesses saw a pair of men take her away last weekend. $2,700 was offered by residents for Eileen's return before she was found at the animal rehabilitation facility. She was treated for an infection and is …

The beloved Westwood restaurant closed after a fire destroyed the kitchen in October.
The Iron Horse officially reopened Monday, less than five months after a fire destroyed the kitchen and nearly took down the entire building. On the surface, the renovations appear to be minor. There are new carpets and a fresh coat of paint. Handicap ramps have been added. But all the paintings have been hung in exactly the same spots they were before. The most extensive changes were made to the kitchen, which has been redesigned to make better use of space and upgraded with new equipment. Kitchen Manager Sean Tremble credited the hard work of a team of local contractors — who also happened to be regular customers and friends — for the quick turnaround. Tremble described the process as being like "getting the band back together" as the …

Owner says he hopes to reopen the popular eatery by Thanksgiving
The owner of The Iron Horse in Westwood is adamant that his eatery will reopen with a brand new kitchen after a weekend fire destroyed that area of the restaurant. "I will be back," Lee Tremble said. "This wasn't my exit plan." Tremble said he hopes to reopen by Thanksgiving, which he estimates to be the earliest it could happen. Right now he said he doesn't know how much damage the eatery has sustained, but said the kitchen was destroyed. From the outside, The Iron Horse looks the same as it did before the fire and aside from the smell of smoke upon entering, no one would know there had been a fire because the dining area looks the same as well. But the kitchen area is a different story, with debris scattered on the floor, holes in the …

No injuries in late-night fire at popular Westwood eatery
To see photos of the damage and read about what The Iron Horse owner had to say about reopening, click here. The fire that broke out in the Iron Horse caused extensive damage to the kitchen, according to Westwood Fire Chief Chris Kelley. "I can't say for sure, but in my estimation, the kitchen is going to be completely renovated," Kelley told Patch on Sunday. The exact cause of the fire, which began in the cooking area, has not yet been officially determined pending the fire official's report, Kelley said. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call by employees made at 12:31 a.m. There were no patrons in the building at the time, Kelley said. "There were four or five employees and the owner [Lee Tremble] was notified right away," Kelley said. "No …
