Hillsdale Police Holding 'Coffee With a Cop' Event

Residents will be able to ask questions and share their concerns in a casual setting.

Officers from the Hillsdale Police Department will hold their first-ever "coffee with a cop" event at Starbucks on Broadway June 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Police Officer Adam Hampton, who is planning the new program, said they aim to get to know residents — and have residents get to know them — in an environment that is calmer than the typical events which bring police in their lives like being the victim of a crime or having a medical emergency. "This is an opportunity for us to break down the barriers," Hampton said. Four or five officers will be attending the event, including Hampton, Police Chief Chip Stalter, one of the department's detectives and other officers with experience in different subjects, so they hope to be able to answer …

Assemblyman Schroeder Faces Another $300K Lawsuit

A Harrington Park resident claims Robert Schroeder never made payments on three loans from last year.

Another civil lawsuit has been filed against Assemblyman Robert Schroeder of Washington Township. Harrington Park resident Phillip Corvelli alleges in a complaint filed in Hackensack April 30 that he made three loans to Schroeder totaling $245,000 in May and June of 2012. Corvelli is seeking more than $339,000 for the loans, interest and his court costs. The loans were initially due back that July, but the two agreed to extend the deadline to August, according to the complaint. The three checks from Hercules Global Logisitics that Schroeder gave to Corvelli were allegedly all returned for insufficient funds, just weeks after the assemblyman was charged with writing bad checks to a pair of investors. No payments have been made on the loans…

I hope that is sarcasm Local321. The Assemblyman continues to collect a paycheck we taxpayers are giving him. He is living in his house and driving his cars and acting like it is just another day. It is time for the charade to end and the courts to do their job. Haul his butt to court and get the process going so the victims can get some money back. Leave the political race out of it. Lawmakers Push For New York to Join Bi-State Flood Commission

The commission would work on flooding issues in Rockland and Bergen waterways like the Pascack Brook.

A group of lawmakers from New Jersey and New York met in Pearl River, N.Y. Wednesday to urge Gov. Andrew Cuomo to sign a bill to create a bi-state flood commission. The commission would address flooding issues in waterways that flow between Rockland and Bergen Counties, including the Pascack Brook. Gov. Chris Christie signed New Jersey's version of the bill early last year. District 39 Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi joined the other lawmakers to support the creation of the 18-member commission, which would address issues affecting the Hackensack, Ramapo and Mahwah Rivers, as well as their tributaries. “Although separated by the state border, residents in Bergen and Rockland counties share a common problem — widespread and out of control …

Funny how Schepisi tries to take credit for a commission that owes its existence to Schroeder. Was he invited to the meeting or did she forget to tell him about it? http://www.politickernj.com/54074/assembly-approves-schroeder-bill-address-flooding-bergen-rockland-counties   more ›

Supreme Court Decides With Hillsdale on 'Golden Orchards' Project

Caliber Builders plans to build an age-restricted housing development on the border of Hillsdale and Washington Township.

The New Jersey Supreme Court unanimously decided Monday to uphold a contested 2007 decision from the Hillsdale Planning Board to approve a proposed housing project near Pascack Road. Caliber Builders, Inc. applied to the Board to build "Golden Orchards," a single-family age-restricted housing development, on a property off Ell Road. The site is located mostly in Hillsdale, with a small portion in Washington Township. They received approval in 2008. The project was opposed by the nearby Northgate Condominium Association because of the public notice for the Planning Board's hearings about the project, which incorrectly named the site's lot numbers. They brought the issue to court after the Board gave its approval. Lower courts had previously…

My friend always said get the petition from the county office so the school does not know you are running until it is too late for them to get somebody in there to carry out thier agenda! I believe the petition gets returned to the county, so they will never know who is running until all petitions are in. I am sure you can find a dozen friends who will keep thier mouths shut for a week or two.   more ›
