A plan for a classic movie theater was replaced with a playhouse for children due to an objection from Westwood Theaters.
A plan for a unique playhouse on Kinderkamack Road was appoved this week, but the application did not include the "golden age" movie theater which was originally planned. The applicant proposed to revitalize a former law office at 312 Kinderkamack Road with a playhouse and two unspecified medical offices. The Westwood Zoning Board unanimously approved the plan during their meeting Monday night. The application had originally included a 96-seat movie theater, which would have played movies from the 1930s and '40s two nights a week. A man who wanted to open a theater to play movies from the '30s and '40s in Westwood is searching for a new location because of an objection from the Westwood Theater.

"They've got 1,200 seats there and I'm never going to show Clash of the Titans of Shrek 3," Walsh said. The Westwood Theater's attorney…

Ray Walsh was inspired to open a revival house movie theater in Westwood after he saw a silent film from 1924 that was shot in the borough.
Movies from "the golden age" of cinema may be coming to a new theater in Westwood, if an application for a use variance is approved by the Westwood Zoning Board. Ray Walsh, a retired employee of the New York Giants who lives in Ramsey, said opening the theater was a personal "bucket list item" stemming from his love of classic movies. If the plan is approved, he will open up a 96-seat theater in a former law office at 312 Kinderkamack Road. The "revival house" theater would show movies, mostly from the 1930s and '40s, twice a night from Wednesday to Saturday each week. "I'm talking Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne-type things," Walsh said. Board attorney David Rutherford said the board would need to consider the "inherent nature" of the theater…
