Zoeller Resigns As Westwood Regional Superintendent

The Westwood Regional Board of Education voted to accept Zoeller's resignation effective April 25.

Dr. Geoffrey Zoeller, the superintendent of Westwood Regional Schools, resigned from his position effective April 25 via a letter to the school board. The board unanimously voted to accept his resignation at their meeting Thursday. The board also voted to grant Zoeller a paid leave of absence from January 25 to April 24. Board Member and former President Carol Mountain, who introduced the motion, said the board and Zoeller had come to a "mutual agreement" that he would resign his position. Zoeller had been criticized by many for taking home a school-owned truck and generator for Hurricane Sandy, then leaving them there while away on vacation in Florida. Westwood School Board Appoints McCourt as Acting Superintendent

No decision has been made about Superintendent Geoffrey Zoeller, who is under investigation by the board.

Rory McCourt will lead the Westwood Regional School District for the rest of the school year. McCourt, the district's director of elementary education and technology, was officially appointed the acting superintendent by a unanimous vote from the school board during their meeting Thursday. McCourt, who had apparently already been filling the role, thanked the board. "It truly is an extremely humbling experience," McCourt said. McCourt's appointment lasts through June 30. His existing employment contract will remain in effect. I agree with putting energy into getting some QUALITY candidates elected to the board, but thats been tried before---unsuccessfully. But It sure would be nice to get Bonnie and Clyde off the board, after all, they bear primary responsibility for the debacle that we have seen. Westwood School Board to Appoint Acting Superintendent For Remainder of School Year

The Westwood Regional Board of Education is scheduled to vote on appointing Rory McCourt as the acting superintendent through the end of the school year.

Westwood Regional Schools may have a new superintendent through the end of the school year. The school board is scheduled to vote Thursday on appointing current Director of Elementary Education and District Technology Rory McCourt as the acting superintendent through June 30. McCourt was already credited as the acting superintendent in a letter to parents sent after the recent school shootings in Connecticut. There is no mention of Superintendent Geoffrey Zoeller in the meeting's agenda. The board is also scheduled to vote to suspend with pay an unnamed employee while an investigation is ongoing. Westwood School Board Plans Another Closed Meeting to Discuss Zoeller

The Westwood Regional Board of Education is investigating Superintendent Geoffrey Zoeller after he took home a district-owned truck and generator and left them there while on vacation.

The Westwood Regional Board of Education is scheduled to hold another closed meeting this week to discuss Superintendent Geoffrey Zoeller. The board will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday and "immediately enter into closed Executive Session for the purpose of discussion of Personnel/Superintendent of Schools," according to a post on the district's website. The board also held closed meetings before and after their last public meeting to discuss Zoeller. Board members are not permitted to discuss personnel issues unless the employee waives his right to privacy. Zoeller on Vacation, Denies 'Forced Leave' Rumors

Rumors have circulated that Westwood Regional Schools Superintendent Geoffrey Zoeller was forced to go on leave until the next Board of Education meeting.

Westwood Regional Schools Superintendent Geoffrey Zoeller confirmed that he was "taking some vacation time," but told Patch via email that it was untrue he had been forced to take a leave by the Board of Education. Rumors circulated this week that Zoeller had been forced to take a leave of absence pending a review by the Board of Education after he took home a district-owned generator and truck for Hurricane Sandy, and left them there while away on vacation in Florida Board President Carol Mountain did not return calls for comment this week. Westwood Regional Superintendent Geoffrey Zoeller has been criticized for using a district-owned truck and generator at his home for Hurricane Sandy, and leaving them there while away on vacation.

Updated at 10:26 p.m. Westwood Regional Schools Superintendent Geoffrey Zoeller apologized Thursday for taking home a district-owned truck and generator for Hurricane Sandy and leaving them there while he went away on vacation. "I made a monumental error in judgment," Zoeller said. The board did not take any action regarding Zoeller at the meeting, but held closed session meetings before and after the regular public meeting to discuss him. Zoeller did not waive his confidentiality rights, so members of the public, including Zoeller himself, were not permitted to sit in on the closed meetings. The Westwood Regional Board of Education is scheduled to discuss Superintendent Geoffrey Zoeller during an executive session before their regular meeting Thursday. Westwood Regional Schools Superintendent drove a district truck and used a district-owned generator to power his home after Hurricane Sandy, according to a report on NorthJersey.com. The truck and generator were both back in the district Monday, but some Westwood and Washington Township residents were upset that Zoeller was using the equipment when several schools and many area residents were without power.
