Westwood Police Searching For Burke's Burglar

An unidentified man reportedly made off with an undetermined amount of cash from the bar and restaurant Saturday morning.

A burglar made off with an undetermined amount of money after fleeing from Burke's on Old Hook Saturday morning, Westwood Police Chief Frank Regino said. Members of a cleaning crew called police at 8:29 a.m. Saturday after they reportedly heard a noise and saw a man run out the back door.  Police discovered a basement office had been entered and a metal cash box with an undetermined amount of money in it had been taken, according to Regino. They were not sure if the man had been in the bar from the night before or if he had come in after the cleaning crew, he said. 'Cat Burglar' Hits Two Washington Township Homes

A burglar broke into two Hampshire Road homes while the residents were sleeping inside.

Two Hampshire Road homes were struck by a "cat burglar" early Wednesday morning, according to Washington Township Police. The homes had apparently been broken into while the residents were sleeping inside, police said. An investigation found one home had been entered via an unlocked door, and a door of the other home was pried open. The burglar got away with jewelrey and cash. Police did not say how much the stolen items were worth. Earlier this year, a Van Emburgh Avenue resident "scuffled" with an intruder he found in his home. Police said they wished to remind residents to lock the doors to their homes and report any suspicious activity. They have also previously shared tips for deterring would-be burglars. Township Police Offer Tips to Prevent Summer Burglaries

Simple actions can deter burglars.

Summer marks an opportunity for many people to get away on vacation, but it also means burglars have their pick of empty homes to target. Washington Township Police recently issued a list of tips residents can use to deter burglaries while away on vacation. The tips include: Police also said there have been cases of burglars pretending to work for a utility company targeting senior citizens. Police Are Investigating Home Burglary

Jewelry was taken from a Beech Street residence in Washington Township

Washington Township police are investigating a home burglary that recently occurred on Beech Street. According to reports, jewelry was taken from the home after a person entered through a window. Officers Vincent Montalbano and Travis Cangialosi went to a Beech Street home at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 6 after police received a report of a home burglary, police said. After an initial investigation and talking to the homeowner, police determined an unknown person had entered the home through a rear window, went to the master bedroom and stole jewelry, according to reports. Detective Sgt. John Calamari went to the home to process the scene for evidence with the help of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation of the Bergen County Sheriff's Department. The …
