Dr. Matthew Certo joined Westwood Jr./Sr. High School as its new principal this summer.
When Westwood Jr./Sr. High School starts its new year September 6, it will do so under the guidance of new Principal Dr. Matthew Certo. Certo, a Glen Rock native, comes to Westwood after serving as the assistant principal of Ramsey High School for the past nine years. He also served as the assistant principal at St. Joseph's High School in West New York, N.J. for five years and previously taught in New York City public schools and the Archdiocese of New York. Certo holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and master's in elementary education from Fordham and a doctorate from the Teachers College at Columbia University. The Westwood Regional Board of Education approved Certo during their May meeting. "I want to give my teachers the best …

New Washington School Principal Melissa Palianto has previous experience in the Westwood Regional District.
Washington Elementary School has a new principal, but her face may already be familiar to some district parents. Melissa Palianto, who was approved as the school's new principal in March, has worked in the Westwood Regional School District for 11 of her 13 years in the education field. She started in the district as a classroom teacher and most recently served as a remedial specialist, school testing coordinator at Brookside and Ketler School and the head basic skills teacher. "I'm thrilled to be the new principal," Palianto said. "It's wonderful because I have such a strong background in the district." In her previous roles, Palianto was responsible for leading some staff development, so she is already familiar with many of the teachers …

Let's face it, the last few years with your child have been an emotional rollercoaster with everyone's hormones a-popping, including the dog's. Your burgeoning adult is testing your mettle while you're just emerging from an 18-year stupor filled with playdates, practices, …

Spice up your summer wardrobe with transitional pieces from Westwood's premier teen clothing retailer
Summer is nearing a close and we’re all gearing up for the start of the school year which means one thing for fashion addicts like myself — back to school shopping. In the midst of stocking up on binders, loose leaf paper and number two pencils, it might seem like a headache to prepare your wardrobe for the school year, but with a few new pieces you can easily transition your favorite outfits from summer to fall. To find some of the season’s best pieces for everything from the classroom to after school hangouts, I visited Guess What’s New Boutique — a family owned business that’s been Westwood’s one-stop shop for juniors and teen designer duds for more than 20 years. Fall has erratic weather, plain and simple. While your un-air conditioned…

Met him when he met the few parents that showed up in June. Certo seems like a nice guy who is highly qualified. He has good intentions. So did his predecessor, Tom Gorman. Hopefully, the superintendent's domineering manner and deviousness and the town politics doesn't force him out. Hopefully he will know how to duck to avoid all of that bs as well any food flying around the cafeteria.   more ›
