Westwood's all volunteer Fire Department answers approximately 280 calls per year, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days aMore year. The department headquarters has been at its current location since 1929, but the building was redone in 2004. The three-story facility houses two engine trucks, a ladder or aerial truck and a rescue truck. In addition to the large garage, the building has office space for the Fire Prevention Bureau, a fire communications room and a state certified training facility where classes, courses and grant writing seminars are held. The Township of Washington Volunteer Fire Department relies on its members to donate their time. In addition to fightingMore fires, members are trained to rescue people stuck in automobiles after crashes and those trapped in ice and water. Community outreach is another big part of the department, which sponsors a Little League team, holds an annual Easter egg hunt, participates in Memorial Day festivities, holds an annual open house and runs a Ragamuffin Parade.
