With more than 15 patrol officers, the Township of Washington Police Department watches over the township around the clock. In addition to the typical duties of the police, several members of the township's department participate in D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) in township schools. Officers also participate in other community activities, like safety instruction, crime, drunk driving and robbery prevention, Stranger Danger programs for kids and Neighborhood Watch. The department is also involved in the Municipal Alliance Committee, dedicated to decreasing drug and alcohol abuse.
