Gynormous Gyro Challenge, Town Day, Pig Roast This Week

Here's a look at the week ahead in Westwood, Hillsdale and Washington Township.

Government offices will be closed Monday for Labor Day.

The Hillsdale Council is scheduled to recognize police Capt. Michael Niego for his retirement and Det. Sgt. Robert Francaviglia and Sgt. Joseph Mazzeo for 20 years of service. The council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in borough hall. The agenda is available here.

The Westwood Council is scheduled to discuss shared courts and vote on a resolution to buy more flood-prone homes with FEMA grant money during their meeting this week. The council's public meeting starts at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the borough municipal building. The full agenda is available here.

Rosh Hashanah starts Wednesday evening and continues through Friday evening.

Hillsdale will hold the annual "town day" from 1 to 5 p.m. at Stonybrook Swim Club Saturday.

Bergen SWAN will host a paddling event with kayaks and canoes on the Woodcliff Lake Reservoir Sunday. The event costs $20 or $30 for anyone who wants to bring their own boat. Call 201-666-1877 or email bergenswan@sprynet.com.

Lou's Tavern in Hillsdale will host their 15th annual pig roast Sunday. The even costs $20 and money raised will be donated to the Nico Santoli Cancer Support Fund. Call 201-666-2103 for tickets.

Gyros & Goodies in Washington Township will host the "Gyrnormous Gyro Challenge" at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Money raised will go to Spectrum For Living.

The Hillsdale & Westwood Flood Solution Group will hold a Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament fundraiser at the Westwood Elks Lodge Sunday. The prize fund is more than $5,000 and the event starts at 4 p.m.
