Students Win Picarella Fund, Knights of Columbus Scholarships

John Fester, Kimberly Oppenheim, Julia Senkevich and Mark O'Dea all won $1,000 scholarships for their future education.

Four local students were awarded scholarships during the annual award night at Mother Seton Council #5427 of the Knights of Columbus in Washington Township May 30.

Maureen Picarella Bivona, the sister of Picarella Trust Fund namesake James Picarella, presented $1,000 awards to John Fester, Kimberly Oppenheim and Julia Senkevich. Maureen read the impressive academic, athletic, and community service records of each recipient before presenting the checks.

Fester is graduating from Bergen Catholic High School and will attend Muhlenberg to study biology with an eye on physical therapy and medical school. Senkevich and Oppenheim are graduating from Westwood High School. Kimberly will attend Rutgers to major in biology and pre-med. Julia will attend Ursinus College to pursue civil engineering.

Grand Knight Mark Holmes presented the $1,000 Mother Seton Council Scholarship to Mark O’Dea. Mark is a graduate of Don Bosco Prep and will be attending Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute on September.
