Pascack Valley Scout Organizing Care Packages For Marines

Alec Maccaro will be collecting donations around the area to send to Marines in Afghanistan.

Alec Maccaro, a member of Boy Scout Troop 80 and a sophomore at Park Ridge High School, is organizing a care package drive in conjunction with MarineParents.com for his Eagle Scout project.

Maccaro is collecting essential items that will be sent to U.S. Marines serving in Afghanistan. Collection boxes are in place at the Park Ridge High School, Park Ridge Police Headquarters, Park Ridge Public library, Westwood Elks and the Hillsdale Police Department. He will also have a collection on June 1 at the A&P stores in Park Ridge and Washington Township between 9 a.m. and noon. A car wash, scheduled for June 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Park Ridge Elks on Sulak Lane off Pascack Road, will raise much-needed funds to offset the shipping costs of the donated goods to MarineParents.com in Missouri.

Among items most requested by the Marines are gum, Ramen noodles, Pop Tarts, protein bars, instant coffee, peanuts, Blistex, Chapstick, eye drops (relieve dry eye), tissues (travel pack), disposable cameras, disposable razors, movie DVDs and music CDs (new and used), and black, green or white cotton T-shirts and socks. Additionally, personalized letters of support are welcomed by the U.S. Marines and will sent along with the supplies.
