Westwood's Summer Festival is Saturday

Westwood Avenue will be closed to traffic during the event.

The Westwood Chamber of Commerce is holding the annual summer festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Shops and restaurants in downtown Westwood will be offering special deals and freebies for the event and Westwood Avenue will be closed to traffic.

John Vitale of Sogno Coffee and Mayor John Birkner will be holding a “barbecue throwdown” on the corner of Broadway and Westwood Avenue from noon to 2 p.m.. Tickets cost $10 each and all the proceeds will go toward the Chamber of Commerce’s scholarship fund.

“We’re putting together some of our favorite foods we enjoy cooking,” Vitale said.

Pompilio’s Pizza will hold their annual “fastest slice” eating contest at noon. The pizzeria's standing record is 32 seconds.

Local toy designer Suzi Gerace — who has made toys for “Madeline,” “Arthur,” Eric Carl titles and “Goodnight Moon” — will be appearing at Papillon Bambino from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Westwood Sleep Center is raffling off a queen-sized mattress.

Blooming Hearts Treasure Shop will have crafts for children outside their store.

There will also be a bounce house and a DJ. The Chamber will be holding a game of "hide and seek" on their Instagram page and giving out seven gift certificates to the winners.
