Pascack Valley Indians Vying For State Championship Saturday

Pascack Valley High School's undefeated varsity football team is playing in the North 1, Group 4 state championship Saturday.

Pascack Valley High School's football team is headed to their title game this weekend.

The Indians beat Wayne Hills last week to maintain their undefeated season and clinch their position in the North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 championship against Roxbury.

The game starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at Kean University in Union.

Pascack Valley is at the top of their group with a record of 11-0 this season, while the Roxbury High School Gaels, from Succasunna, are 10-1.

The two teams have demostrated different styles of play during the season. The Indians have averaged about 195 rushing yards per game and 181 passing yards, while the Gaels have apparently used a less-balanced strategy with an average of only 28 passing yards but 291 rushing yards per game, according to high school sports website MaxPreps.com.

Indians coach Craig Nielsen was recognized by the New York Jets as their "coach of the week" earlier this season. Nielsen has previously led the team to win seven of its last eight league titles. Saturday will be the Indians' third championship game since 2006.

So excited for the Indians - they have worked to so hard and with so much heart. Would of been nice if they could play at Met life, but will give it thee all no matter where they play for the State championship.
