Westwood Regional Marching Band Wins Competition

The band won first place and best music at the Bloomfield Marching Band Invitational.

Westwood Regional Jr./Sr. High School's 41-member marching band won "first place" and "best music" awards at the 32nd annual Bloomfield Marching Band Invitational Sunday.

The band, made of of students from grades eight through 12, played a selection of music from "The Blues Brothers" to win the awards.

Band Director Daniel Peña said he could tell the students were having a fun time performing at the event and believed the judges could, too.

"We've been preparing for a long time," Peña said. "They really focused that night, they were ready to perform."

The band will perform the award-winning tunes again at halftime this Thursday when the Cardinals host Ridgefield Park at 6 p.m.
