Westwood, Hillsdale Schools Make Preparations After Connecticut Shooting

Westwood Regional and Hillsdale schools are increasing security and providing guidance for students with questions after a gunman killed 20 children and several adults at a school in Newtown, Conn. last week.

Hillsdale Superintendent Richard Spirito and Westwood Acting Superintendent Rory McCourt both wrote letters to parents about the incident. Both administrators wrote that they were working with local police to increase security. They also wrote that school staff would be reviewing security protocol and strictly adhering to all safety policies.

The administrators suggested that parents should discuss the incident with their children, if they are old enough. Guidance counselors and teachers will also be ready to help with students' questions in age-appropriate ways, according to the letters.
