Pascack Valley High Dedicates Facilities to Former Teachers

The school held ribbon-cuttings for the Phil Goodyear Physics and Technology Center and the David Tedesco Graphics Engineering Laboratory.

Pascack Valley High School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday for new facilities dedicated to former teachers Phil Goodyear and David Tedesco.

The expansion to the school's applied tech wing, part of a $1.8 million project to address overcrowding and upgrade facilities, includes the new Phil Goodyear Physics and Technology Center and the David Tedesco Graphics Engineering Laboratory.

Superintendent P. Erik Gundersen and former teachers spoke about Goodyear, who taught at PV from 1967 to '97, and Tedesco, who taught from 1968 to '99.

"They had a profound impact on me and hundreds, if not thousands, of students who came through this building," Gundersen said.

The new facilities are "an interactive suite," according to Principal Tom DeMaio. The school hopes to add new architecture and building design classes in the space, he said.

The expansion was designed with Computer-Aided Design software and the school has the files, so students will also be able to examine the work, according to Charles Koch, the project's architect. The rooms were also designed with exposed exposed ducts and pipes, color coded with paint, so that students can see how everything works.

"We've created a living laboratory here," Koch said.

The facilities also include computers, woodworking tools and a 3D printer.

"I can't wait to see some of the things that come out of this facility," Koch said.
