McCourt Leaving Westwood Regional Schools For River Vale

Rory McCourt has been serving as the interim superintendent of Westwood Regional Schools since December.

Rory McCourt, the Westwood Regional Schools administrator who has been filling in as the interim superintendent since December, will be leaving the district to become the new superintendent of River Vale Schools.

"We recognized his talent and obviously others have as well," Board of Education President Roberta Hanlon said.

McCourt could not immediately be reached for comment.

Before taking on the interim superintendent role, McCourt has been the district's director of elementary education and technology and testing coordinator since 2010 and previously served as the principal of Brookside Elementary School. 

Hanlon praised McCourt for his work, saying she was sad to see him go, but was also proud for him.

"They're getting a great administrator," she said.

While the Board of Education continues searching for a new superintendent, James M. Sheerin will serve as the interim starting July 1. The board voted to appoint Sheerin to the position at their last meeting.
