Members of the Hillsdale Board of Education recently elected James Hayden as their 2014 president.
Hayden, who has served on the board for more than 24 years, said he's a proponent of public education and giving back to the community. Serving on the board is enjoyable because of the schools' staff and administrators, he said.
"We've got a fabulous group of individuals who really put kids first," Hayden said.
Dealing with the district's finances will be a priority for the board this year.
"You always have to be cognizant of what the community can bear," Hayden said.
