Barbara Gregory Resigning From Westwood Regional School Board

She's retiring from the board in order to spend more time with her family and traveling.

Barbara Gregory, a 24-year member of the Westwood Regional Board of Education, has announced she will resign from her seat June 30.

Gregory said she wanted to spend more time with her eight grandchildren — two of whom are Westwood Regional students — and traveling with her husband.

"It's been an interesting, long run," she said. "I'd do it again, for the kids."

Gregory said she was proud of the accomplishments she has helped the district achieve over the years, including shrinking class sizes, implementing new technology, raising test scores and creating the new middle school.

"It has been an honor to serve as part of the Westwood Regional School family," she said.

Gregory has spent much of her life in education, having previously worked as a teacher in River Vale. She began volunteering in Westwood Regional Schools when her own children were in the district, eventually joining the Board of Education in 1989 when, she said, there was far less communication between the district and the public.

Gregory said she hopes that some "good, young, viable parents" will apply to take her seat and continue moving the district forward.

While Gregory is leaving the board, she said she still plans to volunteer in the schools whenever possible.

"I will always be involved with the schools as long as they'll have me," Gregory said.
