Washington Township Cell Tower Delayed

Construction on the tower itself was finished on time, but it can't be turned on until PSE&G has completed related work, township attorney Ken Poller said.

The new cell tower at the Washington Township municipal complex hasn't been turned on yet because of a delay with a utility company, township attorney Ken Poller said Monday.

The 120-foot-tall tower was due to be finished by December 24, but PSE&G hasn't finished some final work to hook up utilities at the site, Poller said.

Despite the delay, Verizon and AT&T have begun making their lease payments. The phone service providers will pay the township about $80,000 this year for antenna space.

Engineers from both companies have said the tower would improve cell phone service in parts of the township.

Poller didn't have a date for when the tower would be turned on.

"Hopefully, it'll be done shortly," he said.
