Trailers Still Stored at Washington Twp. Swim Club Property

Roll-off containers and a boat were removed, but several trailers and a pile of trash remained on the site, according to a neighbor.

Washington Township officials are planning a formal inspection of the Washington Township Swim & Recreation Club after a resident reported at a council meeting this week that trailers and other items were still stored on the property.

The township had previously sent a cease and desist notice to the club, but officials agreed to give the club extra time to clean the property of the non-permitted equipment.

Club Co-President Christine Murphy previously explained that the club, running short on funds, had bartered for some services by allowing business owners to park their equipment at the site.

"For two years, I've had Dumpsters in my backyard," Anthony Conti said at the township council meeting this week.

Conti is a bond-holding member of the club who lives next to it, he said. He reported that the roll-off containers and a boat had been removed by Tuesday, but several trailers and a pile of material — possibly trash — remained.

"It's not a swim club anymore, it's a dump site," Conti said.

Township attorney Kenneth Poller said they would have zoning inspector James Tucker visit the site and issue summonses if anything not allowed is still there. Several trailers could be seen on the property early Friday afternoon.
