Township Awards Memorial Field Contract

Memorial Field is set to be re-sodded in early November, after the end of youth football season.

The Washington Township Council voted to award a contract to re-sod during their meeting this week.

The from SCS Contracting was the lowest of four bids recieved by the township for the project. The council bonded for $152,000 of a maximum budget of $160,000 for the work.

SCS Contracting will re-sod Memorial Field sometime in early November, using the field for the season. The DPW will also fix a drainage issue at the bottom of the hill next to the field.

Some township residents had advocated for artificial turf at Memorial Field, citing years of problems with sod. Officials ended up voting to re-sod the field because of turf's higher price tag, which was estimated would run between $1.8 and $3 million.

Mayor Janet Sobkowicz, who began earlier this summer, told Patch she would limit the engineering costs for the project to a maximum of $1,500.

Councilmen previously said they would , possibly for as soon as next year.

Another example of the efficiency of our WT council ... What better time to resod the field than AFTER the season... ??!!

I am heavily in favor a of sod field, however if it doesn't have proper drainage and grading it will just be more of the same. The field needs to have crown where now there is a depression down the middle. I'm sure this won't be addressed and this will just be another waste of taxpayer dollars. I sure hope they surprise me and get it right this time.....

I don't want to spend another nickel on youth sports fields until the roads in town are fixed and someone opens the books and find out how much taxpayer money has been spent over the last decade propping up Bob Schroeder's lifestyle. He borrowed money from everyone else, how do we know he didn't "borrow" from the town coffers?

B@B, I'm pretty sure that the Honorable Assemblyman did not "borrow" money from the town, but I'm absolutely certain that the Honorable Assemblyman has bought and paid for the mayor, members of the council, and a good portion of our town employees. All with other peoples money. Love our town.
