Road Work to Close Patterson Street Bridge

The project will replace the bridge designed to better allow water to flow beneath it.

A project to replace the aging Patterson Street Bridge, behind the post office and Friendly's in Hillsdale, is slated to start next month and the work could close the bridge for more than a year, according to a notice from the borough.

The work is expected to start November 4.

The new bridge will be slightly higher to improve the flow of water beneath it and be built at a slightly different angle compared to the current bridge in order to eliminate the sharp turn onto Washington Avenue.

The old bridge will remain in place during the work to allow emergency vehicles, but not residents, into the Glendale Park neighborhood. Beechwood Drive will be temporarily made two-way to allow drivers out there.
