Hillsdale residents favored Mitt Romney and Westwood residents preferred Barack Obama in the presidential election Tuesday, according to unofficial results released by the towns.
The margins were close in both towns. In Hillsdale, 2,613 voters picked Romney and 2,359 picked Obama. In Westwood, 2,482 picked Obama and 2,362 picked Romney. Mail-in and provisional ballots had not yet been counted.
Conversely, Democrats won all or most of the Hillsdale Council seats and Republicans took the two Westwood Council seats, according to unofficial results.
Numbers from Washington Township were not immediately available.
The results were similar to those from the last presidential election, when 2,953 Hillsdale voters chose John McCain and 2,814 chose Obama. In Westwood, 2,915 picked Obama and 2,657 picked McCain.
In 2004, the majority of voters in both towns voted for George W. Bush over John Kerry. 2,982 Hillsdale voters and 2,795 Westwood voters picked Bush, compared to 2,611 and 2,576 for Kerry, respectively.
