Irvington St. Crossing Reopens Thursday, First Ave. Closing Friday

Crews are working to improve intersections along Broadway in Westwood to allow better traffic flow.

The railroad crossing at Irvington Street and Broadway, which has been closed for work for about two weeks, will reopen at noon Thursday.

The crossing at Broadway and First Avenue will close for work at about noon Friday. It is expected to remain closed until about August 7.

After the First Avenue crossing opens, the crossing at Washington Avenue and Broadway will close for about two more weeks.

Borough officials advised drivers to plan alternate routes during the work.

Until the project is completed, a bus service will replace Pascack Valley Line trains on weekdays between 8:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and all day on weekends.

Once the work at the intersections is finished, additional work in Veterans' Memorial Park is expected to last until December and a road repaving project is planned for next spring.

The project is designed to ease traffic in downtown Westwood by updating traffic lights, creating new turning lanes and allowing drivers to continue on Broadway when trains pass through town.
