Hillsdale Plants 60 Trees

The Hillsdale Environmental Commission organized the plantings as part of an ongoing effort to increase the quality of life in the borough.

Hillsdale recently planted 60 new trees as part of an ongoing effort to increase the quality of life in the borough.

The plantings included 23 Norway spruce evergreens along Broadway to screen the DPW yard, 17 plum, pear, hackberry, cherry,  pin oak, green sugar maples, zelkovas and red oak trees at Centennial Field, Beechwood Park and Memorial Field and 20 red oaks and sugar maples along Hillsdale Avenue and Broadway, according to Stefanie Breuer of the Hillsdale Environmental Commission.

The trees were planted over the course of three days by KC Landscaping of Fort Lee and the borough.

Money for the project came from the Borough Tree Bank and the commission plans to plant more trees in other areas of town as more funds become available, according to Breuer.
