Hillsdale Marks Sept. 11 Anniversary With New Monument

The memorial in Veterans Park features a piece of steel from the World Trade Center.

Hillsdale residents gathered in Veterans Park Wednesday evening to mark the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

This year's ceremony featured the unveiling of a new monument to the victims of the attacks which includes a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. Candles lit in honor of the victims were placed in front of the new monument.

Eric Stigliano, the 15-year-old Boy Scout who organized the construction of the monument for his Eagle project, said he wanted the town to have someplace for people to go anytime and remember the victims.

Stigliano thanked the various residents and local businesses who had helped him build the monument. He told Patch he was pleased that others would finally be able to appreciate the final product. He expects to make Eagle by the end of the year after completing some final paperwork.
