Controversial Housing Development Hearing Wednesday

The Hillsdale Planning Board is scheduled to hold a hearing for Caliber Builders' plan for a property on Ell Road Wednesday.

A plan for an age-restricted housing development on the border of Hillsdale and Washington Township is scheduled for a new hearing Wednesday.

The hearing follows a June decision from the state supreme court which upheld a previous approval of the plan by the Hillsdale Planning Board. The board is scheduled to hold the hearing during their meeting in the borough hall at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting's agenda is available online here.

Caliber Builders had planned to build "Golden Orchards," a single-family age-restricted housing development, on a property off Ell Road and received approval from the borough in 2008.

The nearby Northgate Condominium Association opposed the plan, bringing the approval to court over incorrect lot numbers listed on the public notice for hearings and the classification of a proposed access road. The approval was upheld by several courts.
