Reward Upped to $10K For Washington Twp. Hit-and-Run Info

A driver in an SUV hit Police Officer Heather Castronova and fled the scene early July 20.

The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a driver who hit Washington Township Police Officer Heather Castronova with an SUV July 20 has been increased to $10,000, Police Chief Randy Ciocco said.

So far, no new information about the incident was available, according to Ciocco.

"Since the reward is up to $10,000, I'm hoping this is going to encourage somebody to come forward," Ciocco said.

Anyone with information to report can call the Washington Township Police Department at (201) 664-1140 and ask for extension 169, which will record what they have to say. Ciocco said they would prefer if anyone who called gave their name, but it is not necessary.

The reward includes pledged funds from the Washington Township Police, Pascack Valley PBA 206, Hillsdale Police, Bergen County Police, the Bergen County PBA Conference and the Washington Township Knights of Columbus, according to Ciocco.

"It's overwhelming," Ciocco said. Both he and Castronova were extremely thankful for the support, he said.

Castronova was returning to her car on Fern Street after issuing a ticket at about 4 a.m. Saturday when a black SUV struck her and its driver fled the scene.

She was still recovering and doing better, but would likely feel the after effects for some time, Ciocco said.
