Hillsdale Hires New Police Officer

Anthony Lacher was sworn-in Tuesday night.

Hillsdale officials swore-in the borough's newest police officer Tuesday night.

Anthony Lacher was appointed a probationary patrolman during the Hillsdale Council's meeting.

Lacher formerly worked as a Class 2 Special Officer in Seaside Heights and Pine Beach and is a graduate of Westchester University and the Ocean County Police Academy.

Police Chief Chip Stalter called Lacher "a very community-oriented person."

"He's going to work out very well with the department," Stalter said.

The new hire came shortly before Capt. Michael Niego's retirement effective September 1. Stalter previously said he wanted to hire a new officer in order to maintain the number of officers in the department.
