Hillsdale Approves New PBA Agreement

The three-year contract includes 1.5 percent salary increases each year.

Most Hillsdale police officers will receive 1.5 percent salary increases each year from 2013 to 2015 under a new contract between the borough and PBA.

The Hillsdale Council approved the new agreement with PBA Local 207 during their last meeting. It retroactively takes effect from Jan. 1, 2013 through Dec. 31, 2015.

Employees hired since August 2013 will work on a different base salary grade than those hired before. The base salaries for those hired since August will be subject to two additional steps, meaning they increase at a slower rate. The new base salaries catch up to the existing ones after 10 years of service.

Mayor Max Arnowitz said he was happy with the agreement.

"I think it's fair," he said.

PBA President Chris Donaldson couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

The borough has been negotiating several employee contracts recently. The only one left is the DPW agreement, according to Arnowitz.
