Cat Burglar Strikes Washington Township Home

The residents were home and asleep during the burglary.

A burglar broke into an Andrea Lane home and stole money and jewelry while the residents were asleep inside early Friday morning, according to Washington Township Police Officer Heather Castronova.

The burglar apparently removed a wood panel from a rear door and crawled through the hole, according to police. An alarm was on at the time of the break-in, but it didn't activate because the door wasn't opened, Castronova said.

The thief entered the master bedroom and retrieved the couple's wallets from dressers as they slept, making off with $875 in cash and an unknown amount of jewelry.

Police urged residents to secure their homes at night by ensuring doors and windows are locked and using alarms and outdoor lighting.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious behavior can notify the Washington Township Police at (201) 664-1140 or by calling 911 in an emergency.
