Memorial Field

I haven't hear much about the re-surfacing of Memorial Field lately, artificial turf or just need sod, but we used to read much about the real wear and tear on the field. So how was it ok to have "Town Day" with thousands of people walking all over the field? I'm not at all against Town Day but just saying?
