American Legion Holds Ceremony Honoring Freddy Winkler

Winkler was a lifelong Hillsdale resident and active member of the community.

Members of the American Legion in Hillsdale recently gathered for a special ceremony honoring past post Commander Freddy Winkler, who died July 25 at the age of 87.

Winkler was a lifelong Hillsdale resident, World War II veteran, 65-year member of the Hillsdale Fire Department and 67-year member of the American Legion, according to his obituary. He was also the co-president of the Friends of the Pascack Brook and was instrumental in the annual kids' fishing contest held in the brook.

Post Commander Phil Langner spoke about Winkler's passion for the flag and the community during the event.
