Voter Turnout Down From 2012, Up From 2011

More voters in Westwood, Hillsdale and Washington Township participated in last year's presidential election.

Fewer local voters hit the polls this year compared to last year's presidential election, but the percentage of registered voters who did participate was still higher than the last non-presidential election in 2011.

In Washington Township, 2,864 residents voted, about 45 percent of the 6,322 registered voters, according to unofficial election results. Hillsdale had about 46 percent of its 7,321 voters participate with 3,355 votes. About 46 percent of the 7,052 registered voters in Westwood also participated, casting 3,246 votes.

These numbers were down from last year's presidential election, which saw about 68 percent of voters in all three towns show up to the polls.

The turnout for this year's election, which included a race for governor and every seat in the state legislature, was still up from 2011, when only 38 percent of local registered voters turned up to participate. This year's results were more in line with the few years prior to that election, which had unusually low turnout.
