New Police Officers, Councilman Coming This Week

Here's a look at the week ahead in Westwood, Hillsdale and Washington Township.

The Hillsdale Council is scheduled to consider their choice for a new member during their meeting this week.

Former Council President Michael Giancarlo resigned his seat as of December 31, meaning that the council will need to select a new member this month.

The Bergen County Republican Organization has given three candidates to the council, including local business owner Frank D'Amico and former council members Anthony DeRosa and Frank Pizzella.

Council President Tom Kelley told Patch that the council planned to interview the three candidates during a closed session at their meeting this week. The council may make a decision at the meeting or hold another special session to pick the new member.

The Hillsdale Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Borough Hall.

New Westwood Police Officers

The Westwood Council will hold a ceremony for its three new police officers during their meeting this week.

The new officers — Kevin Mullaney, Tristan Ganter and Keith Bott — were already sworn in earlier this month so they could begin training at the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute in Mahwah.

The three officers were chosen from a pool of more than 200 candidates.

Officials wanted to hold another swearing in during the council meeting so the officers' families and other members of the public could attend.

The Westwood Council meets at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Municipal Complex.
